John Muir Medical Center, Walnut Creek has been awarded many accolades because of the hard work of a dedicated staff, all serving a meaningful mission. The facility’s dedication to provide exceptional care is mirrored by the practices in place within which have lead to the recognition of outside organizations.
With a long list of awards to their name, John Muir Medical Center, Walnut Creek is the only non-academic medical center in northern California to consistently appear in the top 50 hospitals on U.S. News & World Report’s annual list of America’s Best Hospitals. Furthermore, it is one of only four facilities nationwide to be named a Certified Quality Breast Center of Excellence by the National Consortium of Breast Centers, and has also achieved the highest level of accreditation from the Society of Chest Pain Centers. Additional awards and recognitions include the Magnet Recognition for Nursing by the ANCC, The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval, American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines Gold Performance Achievement Award, and Blue Distinction Center for Knee and Hip Replacement. The facility has also been recognized for the way they interact with patients as John Muir Medical Center, Walnut Creek was named as one of the “Leaders in LGBT Healthcare Equality” by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation.
Each of these awards represents a program or practice the facility has worked hard to instill in every employee to ensure all are collectively working toward the mission to “improve the health of the communities [they] serve with quality and compassion.” For instance, John Muir Medical Center implemented a strategy to go paperless which resulted in receiving HIMSS Stage 7 Certification. Less than five percent of the nation’s non-governmental hospitals have achieved this certification. The facility’s green initiative has greatly reduced their use of paper products. Taking it above and beyond, they have also leveraged technology to improve patients’ quality of care.
